LEVEL 4 - Speed Needles

Feb 5, 2010

The boards listed here are true pro speed needle shapes designed to be run on flatwater speed courses. If you are looking to go for serious records then these are for you.

However, if you are a good recreational windsurfer who owns a GPS unit and are looking to set a local or even national best speed, then you may be better owning a "Freeride Fast" board instead.

Fanatic Falcon Speed

Fanatic Falcon Speed

Length:242cm, Width:48cm, Vol:68-l

Built for one use only... SPEED! The smooth, frictionless rocker line and moderate width create the best combination for maximum speed in all water conditions. At 48cm wide and 242cm long, the Falcon Speed has superb control in choppy water and easily carries a very wide variety of sail sizes. The CAD designed scoop-rocker line allows a lower trim over the water, ensuring great control and easy gibing, at the highest speeds.

The mono-concave tail section has a slight tail rocker for a very free ride at all times. More tail volume gives power and drive, whilst the front section is a little thinner, for control in rough conditions. A perfect feeling of “firm footing” and ultimate confidence, essential when pushing your limits at high speeds.

Key Features:
- Mono concave power tail
- V/double concave mid section
- Comfortable and ergonomic power rail shape
- Smooth volume flow
- Perfectly trimmed scoop rocker line from our Speed R&D
- Special parallel high wind outline

JP-Australia Speed

JP Speed 45, 49 and 54

45 - Length:228cm, Width:45cm, Vol:53-l

49 - Length:231cm, Width:49cm, Vol:63-l

54 - Length:231cm, Width:54cm, Vol:73-l

Developed by Antoine himself. As usual for him only the sky is the limit. He wants to break the 100km/h barrier and he is serious about it!

Any questions? I guess that says all about them. All you need to do is put your feet in the straps and sheet in. Some also say you need to push the “no fear” button but we can’t deliver that.

ANTOINE ALBEAU: "When we developed those boards we focused on maximum speed and acceleration as well as a comfortable ride. Since the boards are obviously smaller than most Slalom boards we moved the maximum width further forward than on pure slalom boards - this improves early planing and jibing. We put a lot of effort in the development of the deck shape in the standing area to optimize the stance and give you maximum comfort in high speed downwind runs and when reaching. The rails are designed to provide good grip and planing as well as top acceleration. The V gives you good control and a smooth ride even when you are at the limit.”

Starboard iSonic Speed Special

Starboard iSonic Speed Special W44, W49, W53 and W58

W44 - Length:229cm, Width:44cm, Vol:53-l

W49 - Length:230cm, Width:49cm, Vol:64-l

W53 - Length:231cm, Width:53cm, Vol:74-l

W58 - Length:231cm, Width:58cm, Vol:82-l

For 2010, a new iSonic Speed Special W58 has been introduced to plug the gap between the high wind slalom performance of the iSonic 86 and the speed performance of the iSonic Speed Special W53. The W58 is the most real-world orientated speed board and blends everyday speed for everyone with the possibility to still break records on the best of days. For the recreational speedster, the heavy weight or lightwind speedster, or the professional speedster needing to secure top positions in all conditions on one board, the new W58 is the weapon of choice.

Christophe Fiorentini, designer of the iSonic Speed Specials W43, W49, W53: "I have been working actively on the shape of these 3 speed boards since 2005. In the course of events I have improved the design of each of these boards. To define the ideal characteristics, we tested boards in the South of France (a spot with very irregular winds and with both flat and choppy water conditions) but also in Fuerteventura (150? angle with light wind) and in Namibia (square conditions with 100? angle). Under your feet, the boards accelerate with a great feeling of ease. The boards have a neutral trim so that wind lulls and gusts can be coped with effortlessly and with maximum efficiency. The great special feature of these boards is that they keep the speed generated by a gust of wind for a very long time. The double concave is tailored individually on each model to blend acceleration on flat water and comfort. Below are our recommendation for what fins and sails to choose."
