By now you feel that you are getting pretty proficient cruising around on a big board in light wind. Congratulations!
If you have been taking lessons or going to clinics than you may only have windsurfed a handful of times up to this point. By learning the correct techniques it is quite possible that the first board you ever have to buy is a full-blown performance shortboard.
