2013 Sailworks Revolution 5.2

Mar 17, 2013

Luff: 430
Boom: 170

After a complete makeover in 2011, Sailworks’ Revolution (aka Revo) has been receiving incremental adjustments to keep refining the construction and performance of this revered Gorge-designed sail. The most noticeable change to the previous models was a shortened boom length. Partly the result of a small clew cutaway, this shorter boom length goes a long way to lightening the feel of the Revo and makes it one of the easiest sails in the test to sheet-in. Often this can translate to a sail that feels twitchy, but with a fair amount of seam shaping locking in a solid forward draft, the Revo conducts itself in a civilized manner even in big gusts.

Like all Sailworks sails, the Revo has a large tuning range, allowing you to set the draft high with less downhaul for aggressive waveriding and big air, or lower with more downhaul for a lighter, more efficient feel that puts control at the forefront. This makes it a great sail for those sharing their quiver, or those who need a sail to go from powered bump-and-jump sailing to wavesailing and even into flatwater freestyle.

In the waves, the slightly taller profile seems to prefer single-fin boards, and will help stubborn turning freestyle waves hold their rail in bumpy bottom turns. Off the top, the seam shaping gets power back into yours hands quickly, which, if you know it’s coming, can be a godsend to keep balance through whitewater. Since the Revo is so easy to oversheet and de-power in the bottom turn, this can come as a bit of a surprise at first, but after a wave or two you get it all figured out. Sailworks always pays attention to the details, and here you’ll find a sail that’s dependably built and will last for years.
