Freeride Fast NoCam

Feb 8, 2010

Neil Pryde Hellcat

Freeride sails are for anyone who just loves to sail back and forth across the water having the most fun possible! These sails do everything the recreational windsurfer needs them to:

  • they are fast enough
  • rigging them is a breeze compared to specialized sails
  • they are perfect for learning how to get into the footstraps and jibe... and if you are already there then they will keep you happy every session out!

Here are the FREERIDE SAIL options to choose from:

1. LOOK BELOW for all the Non-Cambered Fast Freeride sails - these provide a performance boost over the Easy Freeride category and are more hassle-free compared to the Cambered Freeride group

2. CLICK HERE if you'd rather look at Easy Freeride sails - this category is more for occasional or more intermediate windsurfers who value ease-of-use and price over performance

3. CLICK HERE if you'd rather look at Cambered Freeride sails - a sail with camber inducers typically has more power than one without. Many of these are just a slight step down from the pro race sails

4. CLICK HERE if you live in a high wind location and are looking for more of a Crossover/Freestyle Wave type sail (we define these as highwind freeride)

Ezzy Freeride 4

Ezzy Freeride 4

A Supreme no-cam sail. Imagine the power and stability of a cambered sail, but without using cams. That’s the Ezzy Freeride 4.

No Monofilm. The Ezzy Freeride utilizes the world’s most advanced materials. Light weight Technora® along the leech reduces stretch and improves performance. Spectra® X-film in the luff and window panels provides extra tear strength. The new TriLite scrim used in the center panels is super lightweight and very strong.

Fewer sails in your quiver. The Freeride has a huge wind range which means you don’t need as many sails. Light and balanced. The deep, draft forward profile of the Freeride doesn’t load your back arm when powered, giving the Freeride a very light feel on the water.

Fits any mast. There is no need to purchase a new mast. The Freeride fits all standard diameter and skinny masts.

You’re not the first to rig it. We already have. Every Freeride is rigged in our factory. We do a thorough check of our work plus tension the battens.

Unmatched customer service. We take our customers as seriously as we do our sails. Email us (info@ezzy.com) and you will get a personal response within 12 hours.

Ezzy Zephyr

Ezzy Zephyr

Back to our roots. The Zephyr takes us back when you could go out in 10 knots or less and have a really fun time. The long boom length combined with the stable profile gives the Zephyr the power of an 8.5 and the control of a 6.5. Light and easy to throw around. The Zephyr is a blast to sail on Stand-Up Paddle (SUP) boards, as well as freeride boards.

New seam shaping. The Zephyr has a camber-like profile without using cams. The Zephyr has a deep and draft forward foil which is what you want for light air sailing. For stronger wind, apply more outhaul to flatten the profile, and the Zephyr becomes a perfect high wind Freeride sail.

Easy to rig. To take the guess work out of rigging, the Zephyr has color coded outhaul and downhaul indicators.

Built to last. The Zephyr contains no monofilm. The Technora® leech panel provides low stretch along the leech. The new Tri-Lite cloth in the center panel is lightweight and strong. The lower panels and luff panels are built with our super tough Spectra® X Film. The battens are RBS® epoxy. The Zephyr also has a vinyl window for durability and perfect visibility. Finally, every Zephyr gets rigged and checked before it leaves the factory.

Hansen Freerace HCL

Hansen Freerace HCL

The FreeRace HCL is a user-friendly, tight-sleeved version of the Slalom HCL incorporating the technology developed for our top-level racing sails. Outline and 3D shaping are similar to the Slalom series with a seven batten, 0/1/2/3 cam-option configuration. The FreeRace HCL also utilizes our patent-applied-for Hansen Compliant Leech (HCL) technology which allows a sail to compliantly adjust both foil shape and twist automatically according to wind pressure and sheeting angle. The result is an extremely versatile sail with extended range that not only excels in light air acceleration, power and pointing but also overpowered gust response and handling. The simplicity of the FreeRace HCL's tight sleeve and lighter weight along with improved durability is particularly desirable to performance-minded sailors looking for speed and power along with reliability and ease of use. The FreeRace HCL is RDM compatible and variety of cam options allows sailors to adjust the structure to their individual preference and sailing style.

MauiSails Switch

Maui Sails Switch

Most of the aspects of super fun windsurfing are enhanced when you choose a Switch for your quiver. If you enjoy high speed blasting but also want great maneuverability and bump and jump characteristics, it’s time to Switch. Excellent skin tension, tube/rod battens, and a stable draft position are the ingredients for controlled jumping, super-x tricks, and high speed. The test team continues to evolve the Switch to be smooth handling and better balanced than ever. Leech tension adjustment, separate from rig tension, has been the key to the continual upgrades in performance since we did this for the development of the TR-3 racing sails, and this makes it easy to achieve the delicate soft feel while  still maintaining the excellent power and acceleration.

The Switch will amaze you with speed and maneuverability uncommon in RAF style designs. And if you want to throw a big loop? No problem to succeed and sail away.

MauiSails Pursuit

Maui Sails Pursuit

The definition of the word ‘pursuit’ brings to mind an effort to catch someone or something, coming from behind, and passing. The Pursuit is the fastest sail in its class, often proven in magazine tests and reported by happy sailors. The excellent wind range comes from a very even shape distribution that promotes a smooth transition from the fullness of the lower sections to the flatter upper sections. The relatively low total luff curve values are responsible for the easy rigging character and simple tuning. Load cell measured downhaul can be half of what otherwise may be expected so there is less work downhauling. New luff cutout dimensions make attaching the boom a breeze.

The 2010 Pursuit is super smooth and easy to sail, with great range to handle a broad variety of conditions. The RAF design is simple to rig, very light, and always right for smooth jibing. More XPly™ material in logical efficient forms will add many hours of enjoyment and visual pleasure.

Tube/rod battens provide excellent draft stability for high end control and balance at speed. The MauiSails design philosophy strives to create a supple organic feel, reactive to changes in wind and sea surface. The entire sail becomes an efficient power generator with twist progression perfectly suited to open ended blasting and carving jibes. And thanks to the narrow, tapered sleeve, waterstarting is a breeze.

 North X_type

North X_type

For you this means enormous thrust AND the ease of use of a NoCam sail for enjoying maneuvers.

The X_TYPE draws its potential from HYPER.LEECH II and TT.TOP II, which ensure a more active twist. In addition, it features a slightly lower profile for more low-down power, and a pressure point further at the front.

This facilitates rig control and steering, and significantly contributes to what is an unusually high stability pressure point for a NoCam sail. Thanks to the PROGRESSIVE.BATTEN.CONFIGURATION, all X_TYPE models feature batten numbers relevant to size and application, with Kai Hopf managing to perfect the 6.0 and 5.4 sizes with just 6 battens. This helps reduce weight and improves handling.

In sails starting at 6.6m2, the rig’s agility reaps a huge benefit from the CUTAWAY.CLEW outhaul, that allows for the use of a shorter boom while minimizing the rotation forces of the X_TYPE. What’s more the X_TYPE can be used with a single 460 mast - one mast fits all!

RRD Evolution

RRD Evolution

The whole new designed Evolution 2010, represents a real new breed of sails. The new cutout leech and wider head design allow the sail to twist a bit more than the previous ones and still maintains a great low end. The new cutout boom allow to shorten the boom length of approximately 5-8 cms, thus increasing the manoeuvrability potential. The completely re-designed foot area brings more surface below the boom to improve the speed potential when needing to close the gap even further! It’s a new design with lots of new features based onto a full well proven benchmark, developed over 5 years of testing. It’s great for everyone in any given condition to ride with pure pleasure.

Features:

The Evolution Sails 2010, the perfect and simple solution to all type of freeriding: speed and early planing for the sizes 9.0 until 6.5. Manoeuvres and tricks for the 6.0 until 4.5. What a simple way to see windsurfing again!!! You need more power? Juts release the outhaul. More top end? Crank on the downhaul. A great performance sail with the shape perfectly locked at 30% of the profile, and equipped with rod battens, allowing the sail to maintain a full, efficient profile even when sail is really flattened out! The Evolution sail features a diagonal stripe tensioner that helps the sail to twist starting from the middle/top part of the mast. A more progressive dynamic twist configuration that allows more speed and control potential. Everyone that has used the Evolution sail has immediately understood that these ones are serious performers!

 Sailworks Retro

Sailworks Retro

For 13 years the Retro has set the benchmark for freeride sail performance. For 2010, we've polished a collection of construction details on the geometry of the sold-out 2009 Retro designs.

The Retro sports a slightly lower center of effort, made possible by a smaller head, longer chord and deeper foot profile. Mitigating the longer chord length is a clew cutout for the boom, which reduces the actual boom length, lowers the swing weight of the rig and makes it possible to use a given boom on a larger size sail than was previously possible.
