The Butterfly Effect - A one of a kind international all-women water sport event

Special 7:
The 7th edition of the Butterfly Effect took place this past weekend from Cumbuco to Taiba. The number 7 seemed to have a special meaning in many ways, for example:
My sail number is US 16. 1+6 = 7
Juliana’s’ sail number is BRA 124. 1+2+4 = 7
Eyals (Juliana’s’ husband and helper of many BE events) sail number is ISR 43. 4+3 =7
Ivana (Julianas’ sister and organizer of B.E. Brazil) sail number is BRA 770 = 7 infinity
The Butterfly Effect started in the 2007.
This was the 7th Butterfly Effect.
We noticed all of these 7’s at once and we just knew it had to be a good sign for the Butterfly Effect.    We knew this Butterfly Effect was going to be special and it was!

The Facts:
We had 30 women participate not only from Brazil, but also from many other countries around the world including Germany, Israel, Switzerland, Norway and Hawaii! The total distance was 50 KM downwind and 5 KM out in the ocean past the Pecem Pier.   18 windsurfers and 12 kite surfers took on the Butterfly challenge of Cumbuco to Pecem, Pecem to Taiba.  Girls with 1-month experience to 20 years flew down the Brazilian coast together. We had so many special surprises along the way like lycras for all the girls, tasty fruits, red bulls, Dakine and Dona Florinda gifts, a Luau with fish and tapioca, and Raffle gifts by Mormaii, Hotsails, Dakine, and Dona Florinda.

The meaning:
Brazil is one of the happiest countries I have ever been to.  I felt at ease when I arrived at the airport with everyone laughing and smiling.  I knew from this moment I had arrived in the right spot.  There is so much hospitality here and to have a Butterfly Effect in the North of Brazil was just meant to be and came together perfectly.
This event was so special with such a good feeling. For many of the Brazilian girls it was the first time in years that they all got together for a day in the water.   For the visiting girls, it was the first time they were able to see the whole coast by the water.  It was something not a lot of people have the chance to do, especially with a bunch of smiling girls!
We started at Fortaleza and gathered into a big pink Dona Florinda Bus.  We sang and laughed the whole way to Cumbuco.  As we arrived Kite Cabana (Cumbuco) there were more girls rigging and signing up for the event.  We passed out Dakine lycras and leis to all the Butterflies.  Then we were off down the beautiful coast, around the Pier and to Pecem.  We had a break with fresh fruit and “agua de coco” in Pecem.   Here, we meet another bunch of girls to join in the rest of the way.
After a couple hours we arrived in Taiba, our final stop.  As I enter the shore I looked upwind to catch a wave, and at the same moment I saw a dolphin sharing a wave with me! This just topped off the best day ever!
In Taiba we had a beautiful Luau with fish and tapioca caught by the local fishermen.  We spent the night under the moon, dancing, listening to music and sharing our stories of our exciting day.  Everyone had a smile on and was completely satisfied with the adventure.

Thank You to all of our sponsors:
DAKINE
Dona Florinda and Termaco
Windzen, Hotsails, Naish, Nivel, Mormaii
