Windsport.com 2010 Gear Tests

This year we had a couple of goals in mind for each category of boards and sails we tested. Let’s look at each one individually:

  • •    True Wave Board: Due to the fact that we are testing these board in one of the world’s best wavesailing locations, Punta San Carlos, Baja, we asked the manufacturers to send us the best boards to really perform in truly epic wave conditions.
  • •    Easy Freeride Boards: Too many windsurfers get hung up with wanting a board that is fast and ultra-light. Well, more likely than not that board will also be very hard to sail. In testing easy freeride designs we found that recreational sailors will have a lot more fun and actually go a lot faster on these board as they will be far more in control while riding.
  • •    Powerful Freeride Sails: To go with our easy freeride boards we asked sail manufacturers to send us big, easy and powerful rigs to match.
  • •    Easy-handling Small Sails: It’s difficult and a lot of work to go out and learn how to get in the footstraps on a 7.5-meter sail. So we test more manageable sails in the 5.0-6.0 range to see how they can each make you a better sailor.
